18 August 2023
📰On August 17, 2023, ECHA announced it has received new tasks as regards EU’s regulatory framework for batteries. ⚠️🔋

In this context, the Agency will assist the Commission by
👇
🔸Developing a report aimed to identify substances of concern found in batteries or used in their manufacturing.
🔸Preparing (if requested by the Commission) a restriction proposal for substances found in batteries and waste batteries which pose a risk to human health or the environment.
🔸Providing an opinion on the effectiveness of the restriction proposal to control the risk through both the Committees for Risk Assessment and Socio-Economic Impact (RAC and SEAC).

What we know so far:
➡️Echa is expected to begin its work on the report in 2024.
➡️The report is expected for the end of 2027.

Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 which entered into force on 17 August 2023 aims to make batteries on the EEA market more sustainable throughout their entire life cycle and is part of EU’s strategic priorities in its shift towards clean energy. ♻️🌱
